Yes, even though it may seem strange, bringing pets to the United States is quite simple, no matter where you are coming from.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Although the import procedures of the United States are considered relatively simple, pet owners will still need to take precise steps to import their dog\/cat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On August 1, 2024, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) implanted new import rules for <strong>bringing a dog to the US<\/strong>. These changes caused a lot of chaos and uncertainty for dog owners all over the world!<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The following guide provides the necessary details to successfully bring dogs and cats into the United States (excluding Hawaii).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Pet Microchip<\/span><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"375\" height=\"250\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15834 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Microchip.jpg\" alt=\"Dog and cat with a pet microchip each and a chip scanner scanning them\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Microchip.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Microchip-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Microchip-219x146.jpg 219w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Microchip-50x33.jpg 50w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Microchip-113x75.jpg 113w\" sizes=\"(max-width:767px) 375px, 375px\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Flying a dog to the US requires that your dog has a microchip. Dogs must have a microchip implanted before getting a rabies vaccine, or the vaccine won\u2019t be valid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We recommend dog owners ask their vet for an international microchip, that meets the ISO Standards, so that, when required, the microchip could be detected with a universal scanner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cats entering the United States <u>don\u2019t<\/u>\u00a0need to be microchipped. Even though it isn\u2019t needed, we highly recommend you microchip your cat as the microchip may be mandatory in your origin country. For example, if you wish to export a cat out of Israel, the Ministry of Agriculture won\u2019t give you a health\/export certificate if your cat doesn\u2019t have a microchip.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Microchips are a minimum requirement for almost all the other countries around the world and therefore, it is best to have one for future travels.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Bringing A Dog Into The US &#8211; Where Is Your Dog Coming From?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-83051 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Bringing-a-Dog-into-the-US-Where-is-your-dog-coming-from.jpg\" alt=\"Bringing a Dog into the US - Where is your dog coming from\" width=\"375\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Bringing-a-Dog-into-the-US-Where-is-your-dog-coming-from.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Bringing-a-Dog-into-the-US-Where-is-your-dog-coming-from-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Bringing-a-Dog-into-the-US-Where-is-your-dog-coming-from-219x146.jpg 219w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Bringing-a-Dog-into-the-US-Where-is-your-dog-coming-from-50x33.jpg 50w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Bringing-a-Dog-into-the-US-Where-is-your-dog-coming-from-113x75.jpg 113w\" sizes=\"(max-width:767px) 375px, 375px\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As mentioned at the beginning of the article, the import procedures for dogs changed on 1\/8\/2024 by the CDC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">According to the new regulations, which only apply to dogs, you must first understand where your dog has been in the last 6 months, before entering the US.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The list of countries is divided into 2 categories:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rabies-free or low-risk countries<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">High-risk countries<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You can see the list of countries with a high risk of rabies <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/importation\/dogs\/high-risk-countries.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">here<\/span><\/a><\/span>. As you may see, unfortunately, the list isn\u2019t small and Israel appears on the high risk list. Because of this, dog owners in Israel who want to fly their dog into the US, are obliged to meet the more stringent requirements of the CDC.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Vaccinations Needed To Bring A Dog\/Cat To The US<\/span><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"375\" height=\"250\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15838 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Vaccinations-Needed-For-Traveling.jpg\" alt=\"Pet dog getting vaccinated at the vet\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Vaccinations-Needed-For-Traveling.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Vaccinations-Needed-For-Traveling-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Vaccinations-Needed-For-Traveling-219x146.jpg 219w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Vaccinations-Needed-For-Traveling-50x33.jpg 50w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Vaccinations-Needed-For-Traveling-113x75.jpg 113w\" sizes=\"(max-width:767px) 375px, 375px\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/importation\/dogs\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CDC regulations<\/a><\/span><\/span> state that if you are\u00a0<strong>bringing a dog into the United States<\/strong>, your dog\u00a0must appear healthy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If you are bringing a dog to the US from a rabies free or low-risk country, your dog doesn\u2019t need vaccinations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However, if you are bringing a dog to the US from a high-risk country then, as stated on the CDC\u2019s website, a distinction should be made between dogs vaccinated in the US to those vaccinated abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Dogs that were vaccinated against rabies in the US, and still have a valid US rabies vaccine, must arrive in the US with the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CDC Dog Import Form receipt<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Certification of US issued Rabies Vaccination form \u2013 this certificate must be issued in the US, by a USDA-certified veterinarian, before the dog leaves the US. If it\u2019s your dog\u2019s first rabies vaccine, the certificate must be issued at least 28 days after receiving the vaccine.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If your dog was not vaccinated in the US, you will need to bring the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CDC Dog Import Form receipt<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rabies antibody test<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Certification of Foreign Rabies Vaccination and Microchip form &#8211; you can find the certificate <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/importation\/pdf\/347457A_FRM_NCEZID_Foreign_vacc_dog-508.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">here<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Furthermore, we recommend you get your dog treated against fleas and ticks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aphis.usda.gov\/pet-travel\/another-country-to-us-import\/dogs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">U.S Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(USDA APHIS), requires that dogs that are imported from countries where screwworm exist, must be accompanied by a certificate stating that the dog has been inspected for screwworm within 5 days before entering the United States. The certificate must state that the dog is either free from screwworm or was found to be infested with screwworm and was held in quarantine and treated until becoming free from screwworm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cats entering the United States are\u00a0<u>not required<\/u>\u00a0to be vaccinated against rabies. Even though this isn\u2019t mandatory, we recommend you get your cat vaccinated against rabies before moving to the US.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Rabies Antibody Titer Test For Dogs Entering The US<\/span><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"375\" height=\"250\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15842 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Rabies-Titer-Test.jpg\" alt=\"Blood serums for Rabies Titer Test\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Rabies-Titer-Test.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Rabies-Titer-Test-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Rabies-Titer-Test-219x146.jpg 219w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Rabies-Titer-Test-50x33.jpg 50w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Rabies-Titer-Test-113x75.jpg 113w\" sizes=\"(max-width:767px) 375px, 375px\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If you wish to <strong>fly a dog to the US<\/strong> from a high-risk country (such as Israel), you will need to ensure that your dog arrives with a <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/en\/rabies-titer-test\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">rabies antibody test<\/span><\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You will need to do the test <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">at least<\/span> 30 days after receiving the last rabies vaccine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If your dog has a regular vaccination history, with rabies vaccines that you renewed on time, and which were administered after the microchip was implanted, you can do the antibody test at any time. In other words, you don\u2019t need to wait 30 days from the last vaccination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Having said that, we still recommend waiting 30 days because this is a basic requirement for pet travel in most countries around the world. It will be a shame wasting so much money on the titer test only for it to be valid for one destination&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is important to note that you will need to do the antibody test at least 28 days before entering the US. If your dog arrives before then, your dog will have to complete the remaining days in a CDC registered animal care facility (ACF).<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How do you keep the antibody test valid? According to the CDC, rabies vaccinations must be renewed on time. If a lapse occurred, the test must be renewed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Are there specific laboratories approved by the CDC? Yes, there are specific laboratories that are accepted by the CDC. You can see the list of laboratories at the following link: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/importation\/dogs\/approved-labs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here!<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What about cats? We would like to emphasize that cats do not need a rabies antibody test to enter the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Health Certificate<\/span><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"375\" height=\"250\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15913 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Health-Certificate.jpg\" alt=\"Pet Health Certificate need for pet travel\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Health-Certificate.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Health-Certificate-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Health-Certificate-219x146.jpg 219w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Health-Certificate-50x33.jpg 50w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Pet-Health-Certificate-113x75.jpg 113w\" sizes=\"(max-width:767px) 375px, 375px\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Flying dogs to the United States <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">does not<\/span> require a veterinary health certificate &#8211; the mandatory form is the CDC form. However, we recommend that a veterinary health certificate be issued, no more than 10 days before flying your dog to the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Since this isn\u2019t mandatory, the health certificate does not need to be approved\/endorsed by the authorities (such as the Ministry of Agriculture).<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cats entering the United States\u00a0<u>don\u2019t<\/u>\u00a0require a health certificate. It is, however, recommended as most airlines won\u2019t accept cats without an official, endorsed health certificate.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Reserve A Place With A CDC Registered Quarantine Facility<\/span><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15840 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Quarantine-For-Pets.jpg\" alt=\"Dogs in quarantine\" width=\"375\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Quarantine-For-Pets.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Quarantine-For-Pets-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Quarantine-For-Pets-219x146.jpg 219w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Quarantine-For-Pets-50x33.jpg 50w, https:\/\/www.pets2fly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Quarantine-For-Pets-113x75.jpg 113w\" sizes=\"(max-width:767px) 375px, 375px\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">All foreign vaccinated dogs arriving from a high-risk country for rabies, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>must<\/strong><\/span> enter the US through a CDC registered animal care facility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Currently, there are 7 quarantine facilities (Animal Care Facilities) at 6 airports:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">New York (JFK)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Washington, D.C. (IAD)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Philadelphia (PHL)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Atlanta (ATL)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Miami (MIA)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Los Angeles (LAX)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You can see the details of the dog quarantine facilities in the United States <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/importation\/dogs\/approved-care-facilities.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">here<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Dogs arriving from a high-risk country for rabies cannot enter the United States through any other airport, unless the dog has a valid US rabies vaccine!<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How long will your dog have to be in &#8220;quarantine&#8221;? It depends on the facility, the time of your flight\u2019s arrival, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Some quarantine facilities are able to release dogs within 4-6 hours. However, some facilities state upfront that it will take 1-3 business days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How much does it cost? However, there are facilities that will require you to do it independently or through a customs broker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There\u2019s a significant doubt that the customs authorities will not allow you to clear your dog independently.
